Disney Dream Cruise Ship of the Disney Cruise Line Has Keel Laying Ceremony

The Disney Dream has reached a milestone in its development as it has now had its keel laying ceremony. This new ship is being built in an effort to greatly expand the Disney Cruise Line to ports all around the world.

The Disney Dream’s keel laying ceremony took place in Papenburg, Germany. The new ship will continue its construction process at the Meyer Werft Shipyard. The keel laying ceremony commences when the first piece of a ship is lowered into the building dock. A lucky coin was put under the keel of the Disney Dream for good fortune.

The Disney Cruise Line fleet will see the addition of the Disney Dream in 2011. In 2012, the Disney Fantasy will join as well. Once both ships have arrived, they will more than double the current capacity of Disney Cruise Line. Each weighs 128,000 tons and has 1250 staterooms onboard.

Disney called in the best from the Meyer Werft shipyard and the team at Walt Disney Imagineering to merge the perfect design with the magical storytelling of Disney. Together, they have created a wonderfully unique design.

Even though the exact design details aren’t available yet, the Disney Dream will sure to please every family member. Spaces have been designed for families, kids and adults-only so that every person who boards will have a place to call home during the voyage.

Port Canaveral will serve as the homeport for both the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. The new ships are larger than Disney’s current ships so expansion efforts are currently underway in Florida to accommodate these new vessels.

Not only will the dock get longer and the terminal be reconfigured to a bigger size, construction on a new multi-floor parking garage has also begun. These new features will help smooth the loading and unloading process.

So, keep a watchful eye on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy as you won’t want to miss sailing on these beautiful new ships.
